Rosie's writing: Guided tour of my.......

Thinkology: helping to develop creative minds.....
In writing we used visualisation to picture a scene, paying particular attention to details before we wrote

Rosie has a well developed writers voice and her writing is a usually a reflection of the stories she reads.

Guided tour of my… dark, scary, deadly mind.

If you ever controlled my mind, it would reveal my dark secrets. My crush, my favourite thing, my fears. That is why my mind is too dangerous for you. I can only share a few little things that are safe. When you do enter it, on the front left is a place for books. Then on the front right is my knowledge. But it is the memory dome at the back where all the deep memories are placed, the ones that need to be kept unknown. The dangerous memories. The ones I can't get rid of. The horrible nightmares. The hatred. Now do you see, why you can not visit my mind?

Food for thought

Nutritionist Rita has been teaching us all about what is in our food, why we need it and how much we need to help our bodies function well.
(We also learnt she competed and represented New Zealand in the last Commonwealth Games as a cyclist. She road her bike 4 hours a day 6 days a week to train. Christchurch to Littleton, around to Diamond Harbour and then over the hill to Port Levy)

Session 1 The Occasional - Sometimes and Lots of Food Pyramid. We learnt what gives us certain nutrients, foods that help the body function at its best and why too much of certain high sugary, salty fatty foods eaten all the time can cause problems for our bodies.

Session 2 We learnt how to read the food labels to find out what amounts we were getting in a product. We read the 'Ingredients lists'. Learnt how to read the Nutritional Information table. We know using the 100g column will help us to compare products more accurately and what a recommended amounts are. Today we focused on Breakfast cereals and drinks. Tomorrow we look at other foods on the shelf in the supermarket. Student will also do their own reseach on pricing of foods for our Inquiry.

The supermarket  visit will be to to compare food labels and find a "Rainbow of Colours" in the vegie and fruit dept.  Big thank you to the parents who are coming in their own lunch hour to make this happen for us!  YOU ARE AWESOME! We are having lunch early in class at 12pm and will be leaving school at 12.15 for a 12.30 start. Back for 1.30pm.

Inquiry: In class, the students will be designing, pricing, making and share a healthy lunch. All based on the information presented in the Unit. Rita is going to give us a voucher to spend.

Students can then draw on and use the knowledge we have gained to make healthy selections that give a balanced meal suitable for their age group. They will be able to say why they have included certain foods and what nutrient that is providing for our body.
This gives a great opportunity to learn how to stick to a budget too.  Practical costings for food items. I want them to minimise waste, so they need to work out sensible amounts needed for particular items. EG: If making sandwiches, they need to consider,  how many loaves of bread will minimise amount of left overs etc.
It will be a great learning experience to gather, connect, relate and extend themselves.
I will post the pictures.

Character Day

Welcome to book week.

Mrs Fowley blogging as new to this event:  My first character day parade at St Albans. Certainly not dampened by the terrible weather, in fact the opposite. I was completely blown away by the effort of character costumes, a real display of excellence by my class, GO ROOM 26. I was so proud of you.
I simply could not choose 2 winners. So.... here's my comments for the finalist.

Lets start with the Simpson's. An outstanding effort by all characters. Are they brave or just plain crazy? Both! and we all loved it!!!
Thank you boys you made our day. I must congratulate the visionary Archie Simpson who led the cause. The details and the likeness of all your characters was simply brilliant.

Maggie: you were superb, so cute with that dummy in your mouth, and the way you embraced the character all day! Talk about 'in role'. I was most impressed by the the prep you must have undertaken to pull off this triumph. Working all week making the paper mache head, gluing on foam square based prisms for hair! WOW! and then with the finer details  ..... YES FOLKS A NAPPY, Huggy indeed!  Archie, we are lucky to have you in our room,  always bringing fun, surprise and laughter into our day.

Marge: Your hair was gobsmackingly huge, the sea of bright blue against your yellow skin and green dress. That small red ball necklace detail was the finishing touch on an incredible costume.
Bravely wearing that dress for a long and very cold day Jake. Awesome Jake. You were every bit the lovely lady that is Marge Simpson, she would have been so impressed with the likeness.

Bart: Tom pulled this boy off to a tee. You looked just as cheeky as Bart himself. I really should have made you write out lines on the board, just to reflect Bart's typical school day. I loved the way you compared similarities, to yourself  and your character. Your yellow skin and spiky hair was a vision of hours hair and makeup. I hear your wonderful mum didn't have time for breakfast! "Bless ya Mum" Thanks for the efforts he looked amazing. The skateboard adding that finishing touch.

Lisa Simpson: wow the eyes that hypnotise. The glasses where a stroke of genius. Another very brave lad facing the long cold day in a dress!  Very impressive Charles. The yellow socks for arms and legs and the contrasting green dress  just looked fantastic. Well done Lisa
